We were so delighted to welcome back our summer visitors last Friday. The boys are back in town. Hummingbirds, that is. It seems to me the men folks get here first and scout and secure their territory. I glimpsed one zipping in and out of the Japanese Maple, possibly checking for nesting sites. I expect the ladies to show up soon. They will have final say on the best place for nesting.

How lovely to have hummingbirds in your gaden! I can't think of anything more wonderful and exotic! Do you get lots of different sorts?
Still, I suppose our birds are very handsome and a pleasure to watch!
Gilly,
There is only one variety of Hummer that visits our area of the world. They are Ruby Throated Hummingbirds and are so much fun to watch. They zip and zoom past us as if they are teasing us or maybe just being friendly.
I think you are right. Most birds are just wonderful visitors to watch and listen to their calls.
how wonderful, ours are not here yet, can't wait though
:) beautiful.
Twain
They are worth waiting for aren't they.
Laura,
Thanks for stopping by. I slipped over to your blog site to comfirm in my mind you are who you are. I meant to tell you before, our middle son has MS. So I have a soft spot in my heart for you already. He is doing well at the momment.
No humming birds sighted as of yet.
The feeder is waiting and so am I.
Ernestine,
You've done your part, I'm sure you'll be seeing them soon. So much fun in such little packages.
Hummingbirds are such a delight.. though I do have a memory of my first encounter as a child - being terrified of what I thought was a giant helicopter bug.
LR,
What fun. I like the idea of a helicopter bug. Did you know there is a moth that imitates Hummingbirds? At least I think it's a moth. We have them visit our flowers almost every year.
Aren't they sweet? I haven't seen any yet up here. Still too cold at night probably. In the meantime, the flowers are rolling out the "red carpet" (and a variety of other colors) to be ready for their arrival!
Aisling,
The lady birds arrived yesterday and so the families are complete. We love sitting on the front porch for the evening performances of aerial displays.
Your Hummers will appreciate your kindness in providing them with an wide selection of nectars.
