FROSTY MORNING

Hoar Frost
What dream of beauty ever equalled this!
What bands from Faeryland have sallied forth,
With snowy foliage from the 'abundant North,
With imagery from the realms of bliss!
What visions of my boyhood do I miss
That here are not restored! All splendours pure,
All loveliness, all graces that allure,
Shapes that amaze; a paradise that is,-----
Yet was not, --will not in few moments be:
Glory from nakedness, that playfully
Mimics with passing life each summer boon,
Clothing the ground - replenishing the tree,
Weaving arch, bower, and delicate festoon;
Still as a dream, - and like a dream to flee!

We rarely get hoar frosts here, though plenty of the ordinary, frozen ground and bitterly cold winds sort! But occasionally we get one, when it is just so very beautiful, especially when the sun is just rising, and the frost is tinged with pink.

Beautiful poem, captured the fleeting quality of the frost.

My pictures just couldn't capture the other worldliness of the frost decorating every surface. It was so pretty, like diamond chips spread everywhere. I searched the poetry sites for just the right poem to suit my thoughts yesterday morning. I thought this one said it well.

Ah, I see the frost fairies have been busy! Wonderful pictures! (grin) I can imagine that in real life it would have been even more breathtaking. ((hugs))

Have a wonderful day, my dear.

Thank you Beth, I bet with your magic ability to enhance a suttle picture you could have built the fairy world remembered in the poem. Blesssings to you and yours.

The frost was beautiful in my area also. Noticed under the woods at the back of the house that the woods seemed to protect the ground from frost. Beautiful poem.

Ernestine,
I'm glad you also liked the poem. It was fun researching for it. It took awhile because I kept getting distracted by what I was finding that didn't relate.
Frost and a clear sky yesterday and now today we have a mightly wind blowing through. The weather is our lesson in how to accept change. We pretty much have no choice.

I bet we will have frost on the ground in the morning. It is going to be in the teens, they say....
I will be going out the door about 6am with my little dog, telling her to hurry up and go...lol

Beverly,
Hope you kept coming back for a reply. We have been in Alabama for a funeral and I'm just now getting back to my blog.
Did you have snow last night, here in middle Tenn we got home last night and this morning we woke to a beautiful snow covered neighborhood. Just gorgeous.

Beautiful pics! I never knew what a hoar frost was! Now I know. Lovely poem to go along with it. I know what you mean about the camera not capturing the exquisite jewels on your lawn. I've tried to capture them in the snow - doesn't work. Or in raindrops. Still doesn't work. Never mind, we've seen the real thing!

Wendy,
It can be frustrating to want to share a beautiful moment and my words are not adequate and a photograph without depth and a soul can't do it either. I didn't have the words, but poets come the closest by giving voice to the emotion of the moment.
